Poor controls detract from decent bread making performance
By Comdet
Bottom line: This offers a lot of functionality for the price, including dual paddles, a 3 pound capacity and decent performance. It’s marred by a very poorly designed control panel. Worth considering, but only if it’s nicely priced.
Full review: I’ve been using a bread machine for many years. After trying (and breaking) a few of the lower cost ones, I got a Zojirushi about ten years ago. Its put out 1 to 2 loaves per week for the last ten years, which speaks to its durability.
This B&D is not even close to a Zo in terms of build quality or performance. But, it’s not even close in terms of price either. It is a worthwhile machine to consider if you’re looking for a light-duty machine.
Pluses include a dual paddle design. I tried it with a standard white bread recipe, a semi-whole wheat recipe and a 100% whole wheat recipe. In every instance, it kneaded the dough smoothly and thoroughly. No complaints at all.
The capacity is also a plus in that you can do a 3 pound loaf rather than the usual 2 pound size. However, while the pan is up to the task of a 3 pound load, the motor is not as willing to go the distance. For a 3 pound loaf it strained a little when kneading the all-white recipe, strained a bit more with the 50% whole wheat, and strained a lot with the 100% whole wheat. This is clearly not a machine that will give years and years of heavy-duty service, especially if you’re a whole wheat fan. But, if you only use it occasionally, and use it more for white breads, it appears built well enough to stand up a decent amount of time.
It also bakes the loaf in a decent shape that’s close to what a regular load looks like. It’s a bit on the tall side, but quite usable for sandwich slices. Baking was generally even, but a bit splotchy in spots. I chock that up to the lightweight pan which doesn’t distribute heat as evenly as a heavier-duty pan would. Bread release was quick and stick-free.
All these good issues are marred by a horribly designed control panel. It’s non-intuitive to use, and looks bad (and cheap) as well. The LCD screen is tiny and hard to see. The indicator bars for loaf size and crust darkness are tiny and hidden at the top and bottom of the screen. The various options (e.g., white bread, whole wheat bread, etc.) are referenced by number rather than something more easily understood. All in all, it’s a big fail when it comes to controls.
At the current price point, this is an OK deal. I’ll give it 4 stars since it offers a 3 pound capacity (albeit you’ll not want to do a 100% whole wheat at that size), dual paddles, and a decent baked loaf shape. That's a lot given the price. The control panel is a big negative; the weak motor is also a negative. Be sure to cross shop this with models from Panasonic and Breadman. Both have models in this general price range that offer better build quality and ease of use, but limit you to a 2 pound loaf. (And if you are a serious breadmaker, invest in a Zojirushi or high-end Panasonic.)

Makes the Perfect Loaf Everytime.....
By M. Hyatt
I have been using Bread Machines since the 80's. I like Black and Decker B6000C Deluxe Bread Maker, 3-Pound because it's as easy to use as a small machine. The instrument panel is easy to read and operate. It is much like the Sunbeam. Crystal LCD readouts.
This is a three pound machine but makes 1.5, 2, 3 pounds loaf of bread. If you have never used a bread machine, I advise you to try the box of self contained ingredients. This is a fail proof method of making the perfect loaf. This machine does not burn or undertook. If you follow the well detailed directions, you will have fun a make the perfect bread. I recommend this particular machine because of the quality and name. The price is great for such a large bread machine.

Hard to see screen
By canelady44
The screen to program the breadmaker is really hard to see, I even used a magnifier and that didn't help. I think the wording on the screen should be easier to read. It is entirely too light.
